Boarding April 3, 2025
Eid Mubarak! We are sending our community warm wishes of peace, joy, and prosperity on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. On March 31, our Boarding community came together to celebrate this joyous occasion during a special dinner. We welcomed Dr. Mohamad Sawwaf, along with speakers from our faculty, staff, and students. Together, we shared translated prayers and blessings, and students Hashim, Rayan and Nail shared how they celebrate Eid with their families.
This past Sunday evening saw the halls of UCC turned into a school-wide game of "manhunt", a form of cumulative tag involving safe zones, jails, powerup cards, and knowledge of the best nooks and crannies to hide in the school. This event was organised by two Year 11 boarders, Daniel Devine and Daniel Ogunlaja, as part of BICEP, our Year 11 leadership program designed to foster community-building skills and experience. Daniel and Daniel relished the opportunity to practice event planning, promotion, and organisation, not to mention using the PA system as game overseers to ensure it was safe, fun, and exciting!
Shortly after the energetic mahunt warm-up, the two boarding houses came together for another round in the Rao Cup competition, with this week's match-up taking place on the badminton court. Shuttlecocks whistled, racquets swished, losers wept and winners whooped as each pair sought to out-rally the other, culminating in another Wedd's victory for this round of the Rao Cup!
Kosei Satoh ’21 (Seaton’s) and David Zhou ’21 (McHugh’s) dropped in for lunch to talk about their U.K. university experiences with Andy Yu, Wilson Li and Darwin Li. All current Year 12 students who have offers to study in the U.K. next year. Kosei completed a Biomedical Engineering degree at University College London (UCL), David is completing an Engineering degree at Imperial College, London. They had a nice visit with Seaton’s Senior House Adviser, Dr. Amit Morris, reminiscing about time spent in boarding.
