U13 CAIS National Tournament in Halifax
Two weeks ago we shared the exciting news that our U13 team had placed 2nd at the CAIS national tournament in Halifax. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their talent and explore a beautiful city.
We arrived on Wednesday morning and drove straight to Peggy’s Cove for an afternoon of exploring and great seafood. After a long day, we checked in to the hotel and headed out for our first team dinner at Jack Astors.
On Thursday, we played three great games of soccer and placed first in our pool, securing a spot in the championship bracket. While we were tired from a day of competition, we headed to glow in the dark mini-putt and dinner at East Side Mario’s.
On Friday we topped our pool which meant we would be playing in the semi-final game on Saturday morning. That night we headed to the Moosehead hockey game for a night of exciting hockey while snacking on popcorn.
With our sights on the gold medal, we headed to BMO field on Saturday morning for our semi-final game against Ashbury College. It was a game of great skill and sportsmanship and UCC came out victorious after 60 minutes of play. In the finals, we faced a skilled Saltus Grammar School where we were defeated 4-0, but walked away proud of our accomplishments.
We would like to thank our team parent Karinne Chan for assisting us in organizing a busy week of activities and team dinners — we can’t thank you enough! We would also like to thank our parents for their support and commitment to this 4-day tournament. Lastly, a huge thank you goes to Gareth Evans and Kerry Dupuis for their coaching throughout this tournament.
U13 Cross Country are CISAA Champions
We are so proud of our Year 7 students who won the CISAA Championships on Monday, October 30. Nearly 15 independent schools competed in the 3 km run and our team came out victorious by 1 point! We would like to thank our coach Anthony Chandler for a wonderful season and congratulate our students on a well-deserved plaque.
U13 Volleyball team placed 2nd in Finals
In an exciting final game against Bayview Glen, our UCC Blues team played their best volleyball to date. Going undefeated in the East division, our squad demonstrated fast overhand serves, consistent three contacts and wonderful energy on the court. We are so proud of their 2nd place finish and we look forward to watching them play volleyball at the Upper School next year. Thank you to the players and Coach Fraser for your efforts and commitment this year!
U13 Soccer are CISAA Champions
It was a windy day on Friday, November 3 for our U13 soccer team competing in the final four tournament at UCC. Defeating HSC in the semi-finals gave our squad good momentum moving into the final game against SAC. Playing on the oval for the first time this year, they played tremendous soccer in front of parents, teachers and friends while coming out with a 4-1 victory! A huge thank you goes out to Coach Evans for his dedication and commitment to the team. It was a long and exciting season, and we can’t thank you enough!
Our winter term of athletics are set to begin next week. Each grade will be offered a unique set of programs that are aligned with the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario. Please remember that some of our teams are tryout based and some of our teams welcome everyone to join. The number of students selected for our tryout teams may change from year to year due to facility availability, Norval absences and other unique circumstances.
Please read about our grade-level programs below. All questions should be communicated directly to the coach of the teams. If your child will be away during the tryout dates please email the coach to let them know. All tryouts happen during your child’s games period. There are no after/before school tryouts.
If your child is in Year 4, they will be playing basketball this term. We will have tryouts for two equal teams (Blue and White) that will compete in games outside of school. Those students who are not selected for this team or cannot/do not wish to participate in competitive games will be placed in our developmental program. Parents will receive communication once teams are selected with further information. Our first day of tryouts will be Tuesday, November 14 during Games.
If your child wants to participate in the developmental program this term, you do not have to fill out anything.

U14 Ski Team
This team is an additional team from the above options. This team will be selected in January and will compete on 4-5 Wednesdays in the new year. There will be one day of trials for all interested athletes. Students must be in the top 10 out of all Year 7 and Year 8 students in both slalom and giant slalom racing.
Because school is our main priority, students who are selected for the hockey and basketball teams will not be allowed to participate in this program. Hockey and basketball have a big time commitment requirement and adding skiing would have students missing too many days of school.
Students who are currently racing for a club and are absent from school on Thursdays/Friday are discouraged from trying out for this team due to the number of days you will potentially be missing from school.
This team requires specific equipment that cannot be rented. There will be more information about this opportunity next week in Heads Up.
U14 Futsal Team
Last year we had the opportunity to bring a two teams of eager futsal players to an invitational tournament at Appleby College. If this event happens again we will hold a morning tryout to select a team for this unique one-day opportunity. Stay tuned for more information.
