The Morehead Cain Scholarship organization has recently updated the wording of their website to reflect a late change in their approach as to who can apply for their scholarship.
In the past, Morehead Cain requested that Canadian high schools nominate three students for the scholarship in addition to accepting applications directly from Canadian students who wished to apply without their school’s nomination. Earlier this month, they changed this rule; students may no longer apply without their high school’s nomination.
Some of our students may have planned to apply to the Morehead Cain Scholarship without seeking our school’s nomination. Because of this new information, we are reopening the nomination process to be fair to those who may have been self-nominating.
To those who have already submitted their statement seeking the school’s nomination, you will still be considered and we would gladly receive an update or reworked submission.
In light of this update from the MH-C Scholarship committee, we are extending the application for our nomination to June 15, please send your cover letters or if you would like to update your submission to Ms.Lopez.
On behalf of the UCO Team,
CONGRATULATIONS!
We have thoroughly enjoyed working with you and supporting you through the application journey. It is bittersweet to see the graduates depart but also exciting as you embark on a new journey.
All final transcripts will be sent to U.S. and U.K. universities by July 6 after the final IB exam results are processed and transcripts updated. Final grades will also be updated on OUAC around this date.
Students may receive communication from institutions in the U.S. and U.K. about their “final report” or transcripts, and they will be sent on this date — so please do not worry about the timing, as the universities send out generic reminders to ensure that students have their final documents submitted in a timely manner.
Students who have been accepted and plan to study in the USA this fall may be interested in this upcoming webinar designed to support students transitioning to a U.S. university. This webinar is being hosted by EducationUSA.
In this Pre-Departure webinar, you will go over the following:
Welcome remarks from a U.S. diplomat.
Paperwork you need to prepare and bring with you over the border.
Crossing the border (a guest speaker from the U.S. Border Patrol).
Important people and resources at your new university.
Some tips about health care, banking, and cell phones.
Getting settled in your new home.
The session will be recorded, and every registered attendee will receive a link to the recording directly after the programming.
Wednesday, June 18, 5–6 p.m. ET / 2–3 p.m. PT
All Year 11 students were asked to complete an update form for their counsellor and adviser: Updates and insights about me. This form is due on May 27, 2024. Thank you to the students who have already completed it. If you have not yet completed the form, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. This can be found in your Drive under University Applications Workspace, there is no need to share it as counsellors and advisors will be able to access this folder. Click here for the video.
Below, we list some of the priority items you should be working on this month:
In Naviance, create a “College List”; prepare to finalize that list. Once you do, take note of all deadlines for applications and scholarships, number of required recommendations, testing policies, etc.
Research financial aid at American institutions and your parents’ role in financing your tuition.
Plan to visit a couple of schools based on your college research. If getting to the campuses isn’t possible, learn as much as you can online via virtual information sessions and virtual tours. Leave a strong “digital” trail behind —use your @ucc email.
Read our How to write a successful common app personal statement (also in your Drive under “University Workspace”).
Read our How to write a successful “Why us?” essay (also in your Drive under “University Workspace”).
Approach two teachers (in person) you will be asked to write your letter of recommendation. Once they agree, complete this form for each of them: teacher letter of recommendation request form. The form is due on June 1, 2024. Thank you to the students who have already submitted it. If you have not yet completed the form, we ask that you do so as soon as possible.
