Let's keep talking about security! How secure are your accounts and passwords? Have you ever checked? Are you confident you are protected?
Start by doing a Security Checkup to check all your Google Accounts: Click Security Checkup
At the top you can review all your devices that you're signed into. Click the three dot menu to remove any accounts that seem suspicious or old.
Check your Recent Security Activity and report any unfamiliar activity.
Check your Third-Party Access and "Remove Access" from any unnecessary app or site.
At the bottom you can check your saved passwords and click: Password Checkup
You'll have to login to your account again for security protection
Google will automatically check to see if any of your saved passwords have been compromised
Review your passwords that you reuse or that are weak for heightened security.
How strong is your password?
Use Password Monster to check your password! Click Here
You're not submitting anything and you're not logged in so this method to check your password strength is safe. If you feel it is still a risk, you can type something close to your password without using the real one.
Are You Safe?
How long would it take to crack your password? Try to create one that you'd remember that would take 7 days or longer to crack.
How could you change your password to make it more secure?
Think about all those surveys on social media. How many of them ask you about your kids names, pets names, mother's maiden name, hometown, or favorite sports team? Color? Number? Anniversary? Birthday? Graduation year? Those can be used to fish for your password info!
Can we find info for your password on your social media?
Tips for Strong Password Protection
Make your passwords long
Make your passwords a "nonsense" phrase
Include numbers, symbols, Uppercase, and lowercase letters
Don't use obvious personal information
Do NOT reuse passwords (check out tip 6 for help remembering all those different passwords)
Use a Password Manager
Keep your passwords secure (Is yours on a post-it note in your desk drawer? Under your keyboard? Asking for a student trying to change their grade)
Change your passwords regularly
If your password needs updated to be more secure. Send an email to ithelpdesk@uc.k12.in.us
Write that you'd like to update your password, but don't include what you want your new password to be.
Someone will contact you privately to gather your new secure password and update it. We will then destroy any evidence of your new password.
Use this tip to check the security of your personal accounts as well as work accounts. You can never been too safe when it comes to online activity.
