Part of the fight for liberation is determining a life of health and wellness. In Toni Cade Bambara's "The Salt Eaters", Minnie, the spiritual healer, asked Velma, the overwhelmed activist, if she was ready to be well. Health is a liberated choice that we must work to choose despite the systems that work against us and demonstrate otherwise. Self-Care is individualistic. What works for some doesn't work for all. Ubuntu staff worked collaboratively to tailor make (if such were possible) self-care options for specific archetypes found in "Salt Eaters" and every day life.
Founded in 2017, UBUNTU has worked in cities across the country including Milwaukee, WI; Seattle, Washington; Boston, Massachusetts; and Chicago, Illinois. Some of our past clients include, but are not limited to, YWCA Madison, ACLU of Wisconsin, and the University of Wisconsin - Madison Population Health Institute. We work mostly with nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Many of our recent projects are with organizations that have a commitment to the well-being of the community through participation in networks and coalitions to interrupt systems of injustice and inequity
