In this session, you will take the Getting Started with Scratch step-by-step tutorial to begin navigating the Scratch user interface.
· You will log into your Scratch account and start your first project (the instructor has created your account)
· You will experiment and iterate in Scratch
· You will be given a username and password to a Scratch account
· You will create your first Scratch project using the Scratch step-by-step tutorial
· You will name your project, share it, and add instructions for the user
· Scripts – Blocks in Scratch that are dragged into the Scripts area to execute commands on Sprites
· Sprites – characters that have actions placed on them in Scratch Stage
· Stage – where the animations are previewed as you are building Scratch projects
· Backdrops – the background scene
· Events – one thing causing another thing to happen
· Sequence – identifying a series of steps for a task
· Loops – running the same sequence multiple times
· Innovation – a new method, idea, or product
Create a program following directions provided in the link below:
1. Log into your Scratch account - Instructor will provide your username and password
a. Write down your username and password in your design journal
2. Click the create tab on the top of the Scratch homepage
3. Take a moment to examine the areas of the Scratch development interface
4. Click on the question mark icon in the top right of the development interface
5. Click the link “Getting Started with Scratch”
6. Follow the steps in the interactive tutorial all the way through
· Ask an instructor or friend to help you through the steps
· You can always start over and move slower through the steps
· Experiment with other scripts to make your animation more interesting
· Click the Explore tab on the top of the Scratch page to see what other projects kids are creating
· So, what’s your first impression of Scratch?
· Identify each of the following vocab words in your first project: event, sequence and loop
· You successfully completed the Scratch Step-by-step Tutorial
· You shared your named project to the community
· You completed your design journal entries
