Like to play games? How about designing games? In this session, you will work with a group to design a dream game.
· Students can identify common design elements of games
· Students will identify and share their favorite games
· Students will seek commonality in all games
· Students will identify game elements in their favorite games
· What makes a game fun? Is it more fun with more than one player? What is your favorite game? Why?
· Gameplay – Specific way a player interacts with a game
· Score – abstract quantity associated with a player
· Timer – measure of time it takes a player to complete a challenge
· Enemies – other simulated actors the player must avoid in gameplay
· Levels – Challenge or series of challenges a player must complete to advance through a game
· Rewards – Earned credit for completing challenges in a game
· Instructors write down favorite games on post its and place on the wall
· Identify commonality and game elements
1 Get into groups with your friends
2 Write down all of your favorite games – one on each post it note
3 Compare your favorite games, and see how they are similar
4 Find out what makes them games
5 Now, work together and create a dream game that the whole group likes
