THE BACHELOR IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCE OF HISTORY
The history program’s mission is to develop generations of Belizean historians to foster Belizean nationalism and identity through teaching, research, writing, and publications of world, regional, and Belizean history. Students will develop knowledge/understanding, skills, and values in history, its methods of inquiry, interpretation, and writing. The program’s research and publications agenda will focus on Belizean history from 2,000 B.C. to the recent past. The program seeks to promote knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of history through journals, books, monographs, conferences, symposia, and other public presentations so that Belizeans can better understand the challenges and opportunities we face as a nation within the context of our region and the world.
The Bachelor in History Program graduates will possess a broad range of historical knowledge and understanding. They will develop a wide range of relevant and transferrable skills, such as analysis, and communication (verbal and written) skills. They will demonstrate self-motivation, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, effective time-management skills and use of resources, and to critically evaluate evidence from past and contemporary sources to substantiate arguments.
