English 2
English 2
Course Description: The English 2 course is designed to work hand-in-hand with and build upon the reading, writing, listening, and speaking standards and skills mastered in English 1. This course will continue to prepare scholars to take the Literature Keystone in the Spring and to continue their growth as a scholar and an individual.
To prepare them for this standardized assessment and to ensure they master a wide array of skills, scholars will read various genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Texts will include an autobiography, a Shakespeare play, short stories, non-fiction and poetry. The course will reflect a variety of voices and cultures so that scholars can be exposed to both texts that are relatable and texts that introduce them to new concepts.
Also, scholars will write for different purposes and audiences. Writing will mainly focus on the qualities of a good paragraph in response to literature, narrative writing, and an extensive Writing Portfolio during the fourth quarter in order to prepare them for the upcoming grade levels, higher education, and being a responsible 21st century citizen
