During my first semester in the graduate program at UALR I took Composition Theory, where I was introduced to the concept of the basic writer and to basic writing pedagogy. I became intrigued with basic writing issues which resulted in my capstone project being the creation of this website and a theory paper on basic writing. By the time I finished the course and my paper, there was a paradigm shift in my thinking about who the basic writer is and where basic writing sits in the larger context of first year composition.
