2023 Central Arkansas Regional JAS
Competition Guidelines & Eligibility
Students in grades 7-12 are invited yearly to participate in the Central Arkansas Regional Junior Academy of Science (CARJAS).
To complete in the CARJAS competition, students conduct a scientific research project in one of the following 13 Scientific Categories of Research:
Behavioral and Social Sciences
Biochemistry
Botany
Chemistry
Computer Science
Earth and Space Science
Engineering
Environmental Science
Mathematics
Medicine and Health
Microbiology
Physics
Zoology
All participating students must have an adult sponsor. Adult sponsors can be teachers, parents, or scientists. The sponsors guide students through the scientific process and paperwork required to participate in the regional competition.
The students’ projects are judged against a standard that includes scientific objectives, experiments and analysis. First-, second- and third-place awards are presented in each category. Those students earning a place are eligible to compete at the Arkansas Junior Academy of Science State Competition in April 2023.

Deadline: Electronic submission ONLY by 11:59pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
No mail-in, paper or hardcopy submissions accepted. No late entries accepted. You will need to email your research paper and ISEF forms (requested as a single document) to Keith Harris at krharris@ualr.edu. Thank you for registering!
To participate in the Central/SouthCentral Arkansas Region, students should have place finished (1st, 2nd, 3rd) at the local level.
Entries will be accepted in two Divisions:
Senior High (9th – 12th)
or
Junior High (7th – 9th)
No more than three papers/school/category/division will be accepted for competition.
Junior Academy does NOT accept papers with multiple authors. Only one student may enter each paper.
