Moving Forward: One Foot at a Time

For this project we chose to create a simple line drawing on a sheet of paper that represents the life of our patient mentors, who support each other and demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity. Our patient mentors are a husband and a wife, each with their own illness experience, but one thing that was very apparent to us is how much they support each other. Our simple picture depicts the couple walking while embracing and leaning on each other leaving their footprints behind them. The husband uses a cane and only has a right shoe print as his left foot drags on the sand due to a stroke and leaves a track behind it. The wife does not have visible signs of disability but suffers from significant pain and ailments that her husband supports her through. This was a lesson to us that you cannot judge a book by its cover. We intentionally had no surroundings or background to the drawing to focus our attention on the couple and their footprints. We felt the title to be fitting that despite their struggles our patient mentors are "Moving Forward: One Foot at a Time".
