Relational (im)Probabilities

Our picture illustrates the uncertainty and constant waiting our PIE mentors experienced in their life-long journey through the healthcare system. The face, which is strongly associated with our identity and expression, is represented by a collage of images depicting the patient’s illness experience. These images of pain and sadness are contrasted with images of optimism and resilience that our PIE mentors have shared with us. Since illness affects multiple domains of their lives, which include ability to participate in leisure, productivity, and social activities, we also aimed to highlight the importance of healthcare and social support in the healing and recovery process.
