(im)Possibilities

With this visual-based piece, we would like to raise the public consciousness about navigating adverse health experiences. The diagnosis of a chronic condition is often a life-changing event, and patients are suddenly faced with a multitude of barriers both foreseen and yet unknown. As patients learn to cope with ongoing challenges, they build a sense of resiliency that allows them to take on future obstacles with an optimistic perspective. We have chosen to use paintings to portray the experience of patients facing and overcoming barriers. In each painting, the initial uncertainty and hardship is contrasted with the discovery of positivity and hopefulness.
