Our project was inspired by the idea of illness as a chapter or event that is embedded within the unique life story of a patient. Illness for many can shift their perspective and storyline for better or for worse and into altogether different chapters than their story might contain without it. The experiences impact not only the main character, but also the stories of all of the people in their path. Our patient mentors have been a wealth of knowledge, just as we know future patients will bring expertise about their own illness experience. We aimed to reflect these themes in our imagery, as just like reading a book, the interpretation of illness occurs through the unique lens and context of the experiencer.
