Hidden Worlds

Our group came together and explored insights inspired through our interactions with our PIE mentors. We attempted to demonstrate the barriers to socialization that those with chronic illness face through a physical representation. We are depicting isolation, as demonstrated by both the box itself, as well as its contents and other aspects of it. Isolation is a very real, and often forgotten aspect of those living with chronic disease. We also depict the outside of the box as a “normal world”, while the inside represents the isolation and shattered sense of self that those with chronic illness often face. At the same time, the colours represent hope and vibrancy that individuals with chronic illness can still experience. Our PIE mentors have all crafted their lives in a way that they have been able to overcome isolation-they have been true inspirations to us for the past two years.
