Artificial Intelligence in Education

The students from EDPS 512 are thrilled to announce an upcoming online event centered around the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in Educational Assessment. This is a free event, scheduled for March 20th, 2024 at 3:30PM, and will be approximately 1.5 hours in length. We are expecting to have two guest speakers, who have expertise and made contributions to the field. In addition to listening to speakers, we will also be engaging in collaborative breakout rooms. These conversations will greatly enhance the discussions surrounding the intersection of AI and education. We look forward to this amazing event!

Dr. Brenda McDermott

Senior Manager of Student Accessibility Services at the University of Calgary



Dr. Brenda McDermott is the Senior Manager of Student Accessibility Services at the University of Calgary. She holds a Master of Education and a PhD in Communications Studies, and she is currently working on research that examines how artificial intelligence tools can support equity in post-secondary classrooms. Her discussion points will be on how AI as a learning tool affects designing assessments.

Dr. Carrie Demmans Epp

Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta


Dr. Carrie Demmans Epp is an assistant professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta, where she leads the EdTeKLA research group. Her work has two streams. One focuses on using analytics and other methods to understand how people use educational technologies so that these technologies and their use can be improved. The other focuses on developing adaptive educational technologies and reporting systems to support learning across a variety of contexts.
