The research activities undertaken by the PDF position will include laboratory testing of wood products and structural systems, and numerical modelling of wood structural systems under various types of loads. The position will also be assisting the IRC Chairholder in supervising graduate and undergraduate research assistants. The main outreach activity will be publishing papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings, presenting research results at conferences and meetings, and preparing technical reports. The incumbent is also expected to meet with sponsors of research projects of the IRC to develop research proposals or report on progress of research projects.

A PhD in structural engineering with strength in numerical modelling is required. Some knowledge on wood research would be desirable. The ability to operate within a team environment and with minimum supervision is essential. The successful candidate should also have good technical communication skills both written and oral and be able to explain concepts clearly to technicians and graduate students.
