The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for:
Completing and submitting the Clinical Supervisor Profile, along with an up-to-date CV or resume.
Maintaining open communication with the student, instructor, and Clinical Director.
Meeting regularly with the student for supervision, adhering to the 1:10 (supervision: direct client contact hours) ratio.
Building a trusting, supportive relationship with the student.
Facilitating the student's development through observation, co-facilitation (if applicable), and independent practice.
Discussing and clarifying the schedule and process for supervision throughout the placement.
Monitoring the student's progress and providing weekly feedback on counseling skills. This includes encouraging the student to conduct research related to the client's presenting problem, review session recordings, case notes, and client files, and observe sessions.
Completing mid-term and final evaluations of the student’s clinical competencies.
Notifying the Clinical Director immediately if any concerns arise about the student’s performance or well-being. If unable to reach the Clinical Director, contact the Department of Psychotherapy and Spirituality at 780-439-7311 or chizen@ualberta.ca.
