Zuzana Buchanan (she/her)
SEC and EAP instructor
zuzana@ualberta.ca
My name is Zuzana, and I’ll be your SEC instructor along with Kevin this term. I’ve been with the school for over a decade, teaching both EAP and SEC seminars at different times.
I believe learning and practicing language doesn’t just happen in class—it happens everywhere! By joining SEC activities, you’ll immerse yourself in the community, which can help you improve your language skills and make adjusting to your new surroundings easier and more enjoyable.
This term, I’m excited to support you in many ways. I’ll be offering Tuesday Writing Workshops to help you improve your writing skills and gain confidence. On Wednesdays, I’ll be teaching the seminar, which is a great opportunity for me to get to know you on a deeper level. For those looking to build speaking confidence, our Thursday Conversation Club is perfect. If you’re feeling shy, don’t worry! Friday Fun events are a great way to meet people, practice your English, and explore what the community has to offer. Feel free to bring a friend or invite someone who could use one!
I’m here for academic support, so don’t hesitate to reach out. If you have questions that are a bit more personal, together we can look for the right person for help. You can always email me at zuzana@ualberta.ca. I’m looking forward to a fantastic term with you!

Hi, I'm Vicky!
I'm a former ELS student so I know how hard it is to study at university in a second language!
I can share some tips and tricks for making friends, finding fun things to do, and being successful in your classes. I want to help make your time in Canada a great experience!
Come visit me in the SEC (ED 6-138) or email me chiachi@ualberta.ca.
It's me, Simon! Maybe you've seen my famous vlog, Simon Says. I know, these videos are pretty sensational, aren't they? (Especially the ones with me in them!)
My favourite thing to do is posing for pictures with students! I also love playing hide and seek, taking long naps in the winter, and going on adventures around Edmonton. Please take me along with you!
In the SEC, I always enjoy listening to the students practice English during the break. You can always share your secrets with me (but don't worry: I never tell anyone else!).
