Our REDCap servers are backed up at intervals throughout the day, based on current University of Alberta policy. The backups are stored "off-site" in the backup data centre. In the unlikely event of a total failure of the main data centre, service will be restored using the backup data centre.
While backups allow the entire REDCap system to be restored from a known point in time, they do not allow for the restoration of individual projects. If required, authorized members of a study team can use existing REDCap features to create backups of study data and metadata. For example, prior to making significant changes to study design. These features include one or more of the following:
Exporting study data
Downloading the data dictionary
Download an XML backup (See the project's Other Functionality tab).
Instructions on creating backups of these project components can be found on our Backup a REDCap Project page.
