This year we want to highlight Genomic Psychiatry

Our keynote speaker Dr. Daniel Moreno de Luca will talk about Implementing Precision Medicine for Autism and Developmental Disorders.

Dr. Daniel Moreno De Luca

Dr. Moreno De Luca completed his medical degree in 2005 at the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia, after which he completed a master’s in neuroscience at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie at Sorbonne Universités in Paris, France. Dr. Moreno De Luca did a postdoctoral fellowship in neurogenetics at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and then completed his clinical psychiatry residency at Yale University, followed by his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship training at Brown, where he has been an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behaviour since 2018. Throughout that same period, he was also the clinical director of the Bradley Hospital’s Genomic Psychiatry Consultation Service and an attending child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist at the Verrecchia Clinic for Children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities. His research focuses on the impact of genetic variation on brain disorders and how to use his discoveries to enhance patient care. He aims to contribute to genomically informed interventions and precision medicine solutions based on his research into the genetic underpinnings of autism and other neuropsychiatric conditions. To move this work forward, he collaborates closely with those who are on the autism spectrum or who live with developmental disorders.

As CASA Research Chair, Dr. Moreno De Luca will mentor and lead world-class research in the Department of Psychiatry, with opportunities for significant collaboration with the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute, the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute and the Department of Pediatrics, along with other provincial, national and global partners. He will also work closely with community groups and the health system to advocate for evidence-based treatment for children and youth with psychiatric illnesses and ultimately aim to drive improvements in child and youth psychiatric care across the province.
