The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) offers a Royal College–accredited residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The program is based at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, with additional rotations at several acute care hospitals and community clinics throughout Edmonton. This program offers diverse clinical, education, and research opportunities across a broad range of sub-specialties.
The PM&R program strives to provide residents with comprehensive training that will prepare them to be competent and respected Physiatrists with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for successful independent clinical practice (community, academic, general or sub-specialty) as well as a commitment to continued self-assessment, life-long self-directed learning and evidence-based care.
Strengths of our program include exposure to a large, diverse and complex population of patients and access to state-of-the-art rehabilitation technology including the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment system (CAREN), ICAN Centre for Assistive Technology, and Syncrude Centre for Motion and Balance.
The program provides:
Comprehensive exposure to all PM&R sub-specialty areas including pediatric rehabilitation, interventional MSK (ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided injections), and spasticity.
Collaboration with several strong research groups, including the iSMART (Sensory Motor Adaptive Rehabilitation Technology) Institute and Sensorimotor Rehabilitation Network at the University of Alberta, thus providing residents with the opportunity to work alongside leading researchers in various fields including rehabilitation, medicine, engineering, computer science, and neurosciences.
Collaboration with the University of Calgary and University of Saskatchewan to provide comprehensive practice exams each year.
