RESIDENT CALL ROOMS
Rooms 2 & 3 outside of the ICU are dedicated call rooms for the Grande Prairie Family Medicine Residency program.
Visiting residents and students are welcome to use the call rooms if there is availability on the Resident Call-Room Sign Up Sheet. Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance if possible.
PARKING
There is not reserved parking available for visiting residents - you will need to park in visitor parking for the general public. Paid parking in the parkade is on levels 1 & 2.
As you are staying for longer than a week, you may want to purchase a one-month parking permit. Permits can be purchased at the Parking Services office on the main level of the parkade.

A state of the art cancer centre with two radiation vaults.
Eleven operating room suites (ORs), including two ORs supported by the Alberta Surgical initiative and a dedicated obstetrical OR in the maternity unit.
Obstetrics – space for an anticipated 2,150 annual births in the region.
Diagnostic imaging – including an MRI and future expansion capability.
Respiratory therapy, laboratory and medical device reprocessing.
Approximately 4,000 square metres for nursing and medical careers programing from Northwestern Polytechnic.
The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation provides bursaries and scholarships for physicians who plan to practice in the community after graduation.
This fund supports educational needs related to medical students accepted or enrolled in a Canadian medical school, who also intend to pursue their career in rural northern Alberta (on or north of 54’ latitude). Granting consideration will be given to students whose educational training may include family medicine, general internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, anesthesia, or psychiatry. Each year, one or more scholarships may be awarded, totalling $10,000.
The board seeks individuals who meet the following criteria. The applicant must:
Fulfill an identified healthcare occupational need as outlined above
Be prepared to sign a one-year return for service agreement upon completion of the program
Be able to show financial need by providing a budget (form available with application)
Have attended high school in a community located on, about, or north of 54’ latitude within Alberta.
The application, cover letter, resume, two letters of reference, curriculum/course outline, and supporting documents (grades) which set out how the candidates meet the above criteria must be submitted by April 30 to the Foundation at info@gphospitalfoundation.ca.
As a doctor, you have the desire to enhance your skills and talents and specialize! The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation encourages you to pursue your education and training by applying for a Dr. Philip Sunohara Memorial Surgical Scholarship
Scholarships of up to $15,000 will be awarded by The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation to assist physicians in their pursuit of surgical specialist education and training. The committee will award these scholarships to physicians engaged in a specialist field, who upon completion of their training will practice within Alberta Health Services.
Applications will be prioritized based on the following fields of study:
Orthopedics and orthopedic subspecialties,
General Surgery,
Other surgical fields in the areas listed below will be prioritized based on the region’s identified specialist needs. These areas include but are not limited to:
Urology
Ophthalmology
Gynecology
Plastics
Ear, Nose and Throat
General Practitioner Surgery
Anesthesia
General Practitioner Anesthesia
Bursary Criteria
Fulfill an identified need within Alberta Health Services;
Be prepared to sign a return for service agreement with Alberta Health Services for one year, if the region does not have a need for the applicant upon completion of their program, the return for service agreement may be waived;
Demonstrate commitment and dedication to his/her work and education;
Be a high performer;
Show growth potential in the chosen specialty;
Provide a detailed budget to identify financial needs;
