As learners, we're heavily taught about the diagnosis and management of various illnesses, but emphasis is less often placed on the more "human" aspects of medicine, though each is equally important in the future care we will provide. Through early opportunities for conversations with patients, we are privileged to hear about their experiences in navigating their illnesses, and how we as medical professionals can make a difference in the course of those illnesses on a more personal level. It’s vital for us to remember that medicine is a continuum of managing illness as well as those humanistic components of care.
