Our project attempts to explore the duality of medical interventions in the lives of patients with chronic illness. The ‘patient’ is poked and prodded with instruments from all sides, highlighting that it is not just the disease that is invasive and disruptive of patients’ lives. However, these interventions begin to ‘unearth’ or ‘chip away at’ the underlying problem, representing how compassionate medical care plays an important role in ‘sculpting’ the course of the disease and helping achieve their best life. The sculpture’s raw and unfinished nature also symbolizes how living with chronic illness is truly a lifelong journey.
