We found a video of an interview with an acquaintance of Martha Chase's. Wacław Szybalski was a geneticist and oncologist who, in the video linked below, recalls interactions with Chase after the 1952 discovery. Unfortunately, it seems as though Chase struggled with her small salary as a research assistant. After her failed marriage, Szybalski goes on to describe how she fell into a depressive state where her coping mechanisms, sadly, were heavy drinking and smoking. Szybalski remembers how conversation with Chase was hard during this time because she was always drinking. Her career came to an abrupt end and she ended up living with her mother - jobless and homeless.
