About
History
In 2008, the first International Oil Sands Tailings Conference (IOSTC) was held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. IOSTC was developed to facilitate the exchange of Information between experts and those with an interest in Canada's oil sands industry.
At the time, tailings management was facing enormous challenges. Significant work had been completed to find technical solutions, but the information was not readily accessible to those who needed it. Advancements in technology were published in diverse sources, ranging from specialized conferences to niche technical journals. There was a need to compile information on the newest advancements and establish connections between the people involved in all aspects of the industry.
Every two years, IOSTC brings together industry practitioners, academia, regulators and oil sands service providers. The conference continues to offer the most recent developments in oil sands tailings and management to the international community through invited speakers and select technical presentations.
