Research Team

Dr. Gregory Kish is the director of the PEPST Lab and Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. He received the B.E.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Western Ontario, where he was awarded the Governor General’s Silver Academic Medal, and received both his M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Toronto. 

From 2002 to 2005, Dr. Kish worked in industry where he was involved in many projects related to electrical energy systems, ranging from PLCs, electric drives and rotating machines to high-voltage electrical substations. 

Dr. Kish is the Energy & Environment Theme Co-Lead for the Centre for Applied Research in Defense and Dual-Use Technologies (CARDD-Tech) at the University of Alberta. 

Current Memberships and Service include:

• IEEE senior member. Member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS). CIGRE member. 

• Associate Editor for IEEE Open Journal of Power Electronics and IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics. 

• Chair of the PELS Chapter for IEEE Northern Canada Section.

• M.Eng program faculty advisor (ECE), and faculty advisor for the University of Alberta PES/IAS/PELS Student Branch Chapter.

• P.Eng. in Alberta and Ontario.
