Geriatric Medicine: Rotation Highlights

• Hours - Monday to Friday, 0800-1700 hours, or as assigned.

• Clinics to attend - generally with the preceptor, or as assigned.

  • Generally 7 nights including one weekend.

  • Weekend home call, rounding with the staff on call is expected.

  • Exception 1, resident at GRH covers call at RAH.

  • Exception 2, residents at UAH cover 9 nights including one weekend.

1. Self-directed Learning Modules (refresher on the basics)

Voice-over slideshows and podcasts on Adverse Events, Falls, Urinary Incontinence, Transition of Care, Decision-Making Capacity, Elder Abuse, Medically Impaired Seniors and Driving are available on the Geriatric Learning Resources site.  These modules along with background readings provided are to be completed preferably within the first 2 weeks of this rotation.  Learning is complemented by the one-on-one interaction with your attending staff. 

2. Geriatric Grand Rounds are held every Tuesday (cancelled for the summer) between 1200-1300h virtually.  Participants can attend at the host site or your site of service through video conference.  Subscribe to Geriatrics-News, the announcement for posters, handouts and evaluation forms through email.  Visit the Geriatric Grand Rounds website.
