If your faculty has referred you to Fresh Start, you should have received an email from us titled: “2026-27 Fresh Start Program Application”. That email includes your personalized application link and step-by-step instructions. This application form is only for referred students.
Only referred students can apply to Fresh Start. If your faculty recommended you, you should have received a direct email from us to your ualberta email address.
Didn't get the email? Check your spam folder or contact us at fstart@ualberta.ca to confirm your referral.
Not sure if you’re eligible? Refer to your academic standing letter from your faculty.
Already referred and ready to apply?
Log into your ualberta email account and look for the email with the subject, “2026-27 Fresh Start Program Application”. Please use the link in that email to ensure your application is processed correctly. It will take you to the "Access to Special Programs" form. Once this form is submitted, you will be emailed instructions on how to access the UAlberta online application and apply to the program for which you have received a nomination or pre-authorization.
We know it might seem easier to include the application here, but because the Fresh Start Program is only open to referred students, we want to make sure the right students are applying at the right time. This approach is to ensure that your application is properly matched with your faculty's referral, and that your application is processed in a timely manner.
If you missed the enrollment deadline for Fresh Start, don’t panic. You still have options:
Appeal Your Academic Standing: If you believe there were extenuating circumstances that impacted your academic standing, contact your faculty.
Take a Year Off and Reapply: You can apply for direct admission next year.
If you take a year off you can postpone your Fresh Start referral and join us the following year. All you have to do is contact us after June 1st in the following year.
