Program Overview
Continuing the tradition of international pharmacy education first established in 1993, the Meiji Pharmaceutical University and University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences visitation program welcomes senior Japanese pharmacy students on a short-term, 2-month, learning journey alongside international and current uAlberta pharmacy students.
Program Goal
To foster collaboration and sharing between pharmacy students and faculty members from Meiji Pharmaceutical University and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the visitation students will be able to:
Describe the similarities and differences in pharmacy education between Japan and Alberta, Canada.
Summarize how community pharmacy practice in Japan and Alberta is similar or different.
Appreciate the provision of patient-centered care and a full scope of pharmacy practice.
Share examples of patient-centered care provided in community & hospital pharmacy practice in Alberta.
Discuss the relationship between culture, health care and the role of the pharmacist.
Explain the opportunities for interdisciplinary practice in Alberta & Japan including pharmacy technicians and the patient’s role on the team.
