Acknowledgement of Traditional Land
The University of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Treaty 6 territory, the traditional and ancestral gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit and many others.
We acknowledge the many First Nations, Metis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on.
Why is FoMD doing this?
The FoMD vision is “Health and wellness of all through excellence in education, discovery, and clinical care”. The values of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are underpinned through a commitment to "Investing in an inclusive environment that recognizes and respects the dignity and humanity of individuals and communities".
Since our teaching, research and clinical activities take place in highly diverse communities (populations within Central and Northern Alberta) and because a diverse workforce contributes to varied ideas and perspectives, FoMD has committed to ensuring our leaders, faculty, staff and students represent the communities we serve.
We need an accurate picture of our workforce in order to evaluate our progress. The first FoMD workforce census was in 2018 since that time the University has updated the FoMD data by periodically surveying those new to the University. The world has changed since 2018 and we need a robust response rate to fully inform our strategic plan, progress towards our social accountability mandate and to provide the medical school with required data to support accreditation.
By counting yourself in, you will provide valuable data on the compositional diversity of FoMD’s workforce. Data will improve our recruitment and retention practices and support our social accountability mandate by allowing us to track employment trends and help ensure that everyone benefits from a fair and equitable workplace.
