As a researcher, I am compelled to study the effectiveness of climate change on society and nature. I am a founding member of the UAlberats's Climate Change + Health Hub. With collaborators such as Dr. Chris Lemeiux (WLU) and our students, we have examined visitors' perspectives on Last Change Tourism. I have also written about the state of mountain tourism, in the face of climate change (see Alpine Club of Canada mountain report article) .
Research can identify effective approaches that industry, government and visitors can take to make a difference. Through her Master's research, Mu He identified ways in which private sector operators can educate visitors to Jasper's Columbia Icefields, through enhanced interpretation scripts that entertain and empower visitors to take action (see her paper here). I have shared with Crown of the Continent outdoor recreation sector and local municipalities ways in which they can take action to support climate change action amongst staff and visitors alike (see slide deck with tips here).
