Who are we?
This study is being conducted by Kyleigh P. McAlister, a second year graduate student in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta. This study is being supervised by Drs. Andrea MacLeod and Tanya Dash and culturally/ethically advised by Tashina Makokis.
What is the goal of the study?
The study seeks to gain an in-depth understanding of rehabilitation professionals’ perspectives on and experience providing culturally responsive care for Indigenous older adults in healthcare settings.
What are the study's objectives?
Examine how rehabilitation professionals understand and apply principles of culturally responsive care.
Explore how rehabilitation professionals adapt their clinical practice.
Identify barriers and facilitators.
Who can participate?
To be considered eligible for this study, you must:
Be a practicing clinician in the field(s) of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and or Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Sciences and Disorders
Have experience working with Indigenous older adults within healthcare settings
Not identify as Indigenous
Be able to write, read, and speak English at a conversational level
What does the study involve?
Participation in this study would involve:
Completing a brief online demographic questionnaire (~15 minutes),
Completing a self-rating questionnaire (~15 minutes), and
Participating in one (1) virtual focus group discussion conducted via zoom (~1.5-2 hours)
Will I be paid for participating?
You will not be paid for participating in this study. However, in recognition of your time and contributions, you will receive a $30 honorarium in the form of an Amazon eGift Card.
