The Dash lab, directed by Dr. Tanya Dash, focuses on understanding the intricate relationship between cognitive processes and language in aging populations. The lab investigates how multilingualism influences cognitive reserve and how this, in turn, affects the progression of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. By examining linguistic characteristics in aging populations, including those with aphasia and dementia, CALL aims to uncover how different language experiences shape cognitive aging.
CALL's research integrates behavioural, neuroimaging, and psycholinguistic approaches to study how aging individuals, particularly those from bilingual or multilingual backgrounds, maintain cognitive functions. The lab also emphasizes the importance of culturally relevant and community-based research, working closely with diverse populations to ensure findings are applicable and beneficial in real-world settings.
Our long-term goals include developing robust assessment tools and therapeutic strategies that cater to the linguistic and cognitive needs of aging individuals, ultimately contributing to better clinical outcomes and quality of life.
Congratulations to Sarah Pfeiffer and Kyleigh McAlister for receiving the Deborah Kully Scholarship in Stuttering Treatment and Research!
