About the Care-of-the-Elderly Health Guide
The Care-of-the-Elderly (COE) Health Guide (the Health Guide) is a compilation of recommendations for common health issues in the care of older persons. It is a list of current guidelines published by other reputable organizations. This 2021 Health Guide is an adaptation of the 2003 Health Guide developed by Dr. Jean Triscott and colleagues (Triscott JA, Handfield-Jones RS, Bell-Irving KA, Windholz S, Auger JR, Butler RG. Evidence-Based Care of the Elderly Health-Guide. Geriatrics Today. 2003;6:36-42).
1. The Guide lists salient recommendations useful for primary care practice. A link to the complete list of recommendations is provided.
2. The Guide lists recommendations, as well as corresponding appraisals, verbatim from the reference. There is no attempt to re-appraise the recommendations. The grading or rating of evidence, when available, is listed as published in the reference.
3. Clinicians are invited to download and use the Guide in as much as the recommendations may be useful to patient care.
