About the ChIRP research group
We are a group of researchers at the University of Alberta who share a scientific interest in how children develop. As researchers, we come from different academic backgrounds: Linguistics, Psychology, Education, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Agricultural, Life & Environment Sciences.

We are looking for participating families:
Our research needs you! We are asking families with children to sign up through this website. Once you are on the list, we can contact you with potential studies. If you are interested, that’s great! We will work with you to schedule a time that is best. If not, no problem. We can ask again once a new study becomes available.
What happens in a study?
We run many different studies across campus. All studies are designed to be age-appropriate and engaging to your child - we want you and your children to enjoy the experience at the University of Alberta. Some will take place in a lab on campus, others will be online, and some may involve a visit to your home.
What happens to my child’s data?
The data we collect in our studies is used for research purposes only. Each study we conduct must be approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Alberta.
Would you like to take part?
Once you click the sign up button, we ask for contact information (so that we can call or email you) and basic information for children under 18 years old (e.g., names, birth dates, language background). This way, we can contact you once a study is available. Even if you sign up now, there is no obligation for you to agree to participate when we contact you in the future.
Congratulations! If you are pregnant but are interested in participating in the ChIRP labs, sign up here! Because we know that new parents are busy, we will contact you after your due date to ask whether you are still interested in our studies.
Please contact us at chirp@ualberta.ca if you have questions.
