Michael Bucknor

Michael A. Bucknor is Professor and Nominee, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Black Global Studies and Decolonial Practice.

Michael Frishkopf

Michael Frishkopf is Professor of Music and Director of the Canadian Centre for Ethnomusicology at the University of Alberta, as well as  adjunct professor at the University for Development Studies in Ghana. His ethnomusicological research and applied projects center on Egypt, Ghana, Liberia, Ethiopia, and Canada, on a variety of topics, including Islam, Immigration, Development, Health, Architecture, Virtual Reality, Machine Learning, and Social Network Analysis. He is also a Third Stream performer and composer. 

Chris Reyns-Chikuma

Chris Reyns-Chikuma is a professor of Cultural Studies at UofA. He teaches Francophone cultures (including BD-Comics, AI-IA, Digital Humanities/humanités numériques in France) in French and C.Lit. in English. He publishes on various topics and medias. His most recent book is Brussels 1900 Vienna: Networks in Literature, Visual and Performing Arts, and Other Cultural Practices, co-edited with Helga Mitterbauer and Piet Defraeye (2022; https://muse.jhu.edu/article/885976/summary ) and his most recent academic contributions are on Canadian Comics in special issues of ARCS (American Review of Canadian Studies) (www…) and CRCL (Canadian Review of Comparative Literature) (www…) [both forthcoming 2024]. Elsa Robinson

Elsa Robinson is a multidisciplinary artist and visual arts instructor based in Amiskwacîwâskahikan. Her decades-long devotion to her visual art practice has imbued her work with vibrancy, versatility and an intuitive spiritual poignancy. Through years of study as a self-taught artist, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta's Art and Design program and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Vermont College of Fine Art, Elsa has honed the ability to transmit her deep love and care for humanity using painting, collage, sculpture, and installations. Recently, Elsa’s art practice expanded to include dance and theatre.


Elsa served as a board member for Harcourt House Artist Run Centre, Edmonton Arts Council, Ribbon Rouge Foundation and is currently on the board of directors for Latitude53 Gallery.


In 2012, Elsa received the National Black Coalition of Canada Fill Fraser Award for Outstanding Work in Visual Arts. She was shortlisted for the 2022 Eldon and Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize, and she also received the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contribution to her community as an artist, art instructor and community builder.
