Dr. Andrew K. Hamilton is a Research Scientist at the University of Alberta studying the fluid mechanics of natural waters, particularly cold icy waters. Fundamentally, his goal is to understand how the world works. He focuses on phenomenon occurring where solid ice and liquid water meet; encompassing topics including how ocean properties and circulation are evolving in a changing Arctic; how glacier and oceans interact in polar fjords; and the seasonality and physical processes in ice-covered lakes. As a field-going observationalist he employs a variety of in-situ and remote sensing techniques to study icy waters. Dr. Hamilton collaborates closely with Inuit researchers in the Canadian high-Arctic, and has led several expeditions to remote locations in the polar regions.
