Roles and responsibilities under the umbrella of academic integrity are linked to all members of the university community.
The university is responsible for taking reasonable steps to maintain academic integrity and protect the integrity and value of the University of Alberta degrees and other accreditations, its academic mission, and its reputation for excellence in scholarship and research.
Wherever possible, the university should provide both general and program-specific educational materials and opportunities to help students learn their individual responsibilities.
The university will create a supportive space for students to be accountable, for example by undertaking skill-building and remedial activities to correct their behaviour, taking steps to align future conduct with the principles of academic integrity, and/or repairing harm resulting from their academic misconduct.
All members of the university community are entitled to a fair, vibrant and supportive learning environment.

Instructors are responsible for setting clear expectations around academic integrity in their courses, modelling honest behaviour as teachers and scholars, and creating a space for students to demonstrate and develop their understanding of academic integrity.
Instructors are responsible for investigating and reporting inappropriate behaviour they suspect is in violation of either the Student Academic Integrity Policy or the Student Conduct Policy.
Students are responsible for meeting the expectations set by their instructors in their academic work, developing an understanding of concepts, and seeking appropriate support when they have questions.
Students are responsible for the entire content and form of their academic work.
Students are expected to conduct themselves with honesty, fairness, trust, respect, responsibility and courage, aligning their behaviour with the fundamental values of academic integrity as described by the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI, 2021).
Students are responsible for adhering to the Student Academic Integrity Policy and the Student Conduct Policy, and all associated policies related to ethics, conduct and integrity.
