Several members of the E3M team attended the 2025 Annual Society of Experimental Mechanics conference in Milwaukee, WI during June 2025. Sydney Resnick, Elias Gerstein, and Dr. Spulak presented their research findings at the conference.
Five graduate students from the E3M team showcased their research work at the 2025 Graduate Student Poster Session at UAH on March 26, 2025. Abigail Schauer (pictured), Derryk Daignault, Sydney Resnick, Elias Gerstein, and Joel Barnes all presented details of their research. More details of the event can be found in the UAH Newsletter here.
Undergraduate researchers Tyler Robertson and Paul Custodio presented their research at both the 4th Annual UAH Engineering Showcase on Feb. 18. 2025 as well as at Research Horizon's Day on March 4, 2025. Paul performed simulations to design a new type of high rate shear test for fiber reinforced composite specimens, and Tyler's research involved designing novel high rate tension tests to more accurately determine the rate sensitivity of ductile materials.
Dr. Spulak and the E3M team hosted visiting students from Drake State University's Frontiers Engineering Coalition (FEC) for a UAH campus visit on Nov. 8, 2024. The FEC students met with a variety of UAH faculty and toured numerous labs from the MAE, ECE, CEE, and ISEEM Departments, as well as got to see the UAH Moon Buggy team and the PRC.
Elias Marler won 1st place at the 5th Annual Tri-Campus Materials Science Student Research Symposium, held on Jan. 26, 2024, for his poster presentation titled "Quasi-static and Dynamic Tension Testing of L-PBF 316L Stainless Steel"
Tyler Robertson won 3rd Place at the 2024 UAH Summer Community of Scholars (SCS) Poster Session for his poster describing his summer research, "Novel Mechanical Test Specimens to Achieve Multiple Constant Elevated Strain Rates Simultaneously"
In June 2024, several members of the E3M team including Dr. Spulak, Elias Marler, Derryk Daignault, and Abigail Schauer attended the 2024 Society of Experimental Mechanics (SEM) Conference in Vancouver, WA to present the results of their research.
