Every Spring semester (January to May), Dr. Hieu Pham and Mr. Russell Dunford leads a class of graduate-level data analytics students as they focus on solving a diverse variety of real-world business problems for your organization.
About Dr. Pham
Dr. Pham received his PhD from Iowa State University in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Computational Optimization and Data Analytics. He brings his expertise in data science to the classroom to help students learn key skills needed for today's society. Before joining the University of Alabama in Huntsville as an Assistant Professor of Management Science, he held positions as a Data Scientist, Research Data Scientist, and Machine Learning Engineer at Omni Analytics Group and Syngenta Group.
His research expertise is designing advanced analytical solutions through the development of cutting-edge, scalable algorithms. He has published numerous research papers in leading machine learning and artificial intelligence journals.
In addition to academia, Dr. Pham also provides consulting expertise for businesses in the area of data analytics, data mining, and cloud computing.
About Mr. Dunford
Mr. Dunford is a Senior Business and Program Management Executive with extensive experience in both domestic and multinational environments. With a strong focus on data analytics, program and knowledge management, Russ gravitates to team mission success through effective team building and strategic communication.
Proven track record in leading change initiatives that enhance customer-focused operations, leveraging both commercial and government resources to deliver innovative, value-added solutions.
As the current Team Lead of the User Experience Directorate at the Defense Acquisition University, he spearheads the integration of AI and open-source solutions to improve knowledge management and content delivery for over 150K+ Department of Defense and industry professionals.
A passionate advocate for diversity and collaboration, Russ has also held key leadership roles at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he led high-impact data analytics and operational teams, earning national recognition for innovation and excellence.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Russ is an author, patent holder, and founder of an educational nonprofit, underscoring his commitment to community service and lifelong learning.

Project Description
Each project has three stages of design:
Problem Definition
Current State Analysis
Future State Collaborative Design and Delivery
Students teams (three to four students) perform in-depth quantitative analysis and design throughout the entire project. This may include on-site or virtual involvement to ensure success, as needed. By the end of the project, the student team will submit their business recommendation, impact, and any other deliverable requested by the sponsoring organization.
We look for projects that will make an impact on your organization. Projects can be in the areas of data mining, statistical analysis, dashboarding, data visualizations, predictive modeling, customer segmentations, recommender systems, natural language processing, text mining, database design, or anything else data-centric!
