Jeffrey J. Bayer Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship was established in 2000 in loving memory of Jeffrey Bayer, who achieved great stature as a nationally acclaimed artist, community leader, and inspiring UAH professor who cared deeply for his students and made a difference in their lives by nurturing their creativity. It is the hope that Professor Bayer’s spirit will be sustained through the many lives and works that this award will touch.


Dr. Darren Dawson, President, UAH

Dr. Darren Dawson is the ninth president of The University of Alabama in Huntsville joining the university on June 21, 2019. Prior to joining UAH, Darren Dawson was Dean of Engineering at Kansas State University (2014-2019) and the Department Chair of the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University (2007-2014). From 1990 to 2007, he served as a faculty member and Graduate Coordinator (2005-2007) at Clemson University.

President Dawson continues the tradition of sponsoring the President's Award. This award recognizes the excellent work of student artists.

Dr. Christine Curtis, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, UAH, Retired

Dr. Christine Curtis began her responsibilities as the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs for The University of Alabama in Huntsville on February 24, 2014. Dr. Curtis provides leadership and vision in: planning, developing, reviewing and overseeing all academic programs; recruiting, supporting and retaining faculty; and giving direction to recruiting, nurturing and educating students teaching.

Dr. Curtis established the award in honor of our outstanding students' hard work and achievements.

Sean M. Lane, Dean, College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, UAH

Dr. Sean Lane began his responsibilities as the Dean for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at The University of Alabama in Huntsville in the summer of 2018.

Lane earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fresno, a Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology from Kent State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Experimental Psychology from Kent State University.


Women’s & Gender Studies


“Our purpose is to bring an awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the study of women and gender to the students, faculty, and staff of UAH and to the North Alabama community. We are one of the few interdisciplinary programs on campus, collaborating with faculty in history, literature, psychology, nursing, business management, engineering, sociology, art, and education, just to name a few."

The Women's and Gender Studies Program promotes the social awareness of women's and gender issues in the Huntsville and North Alabama communities through our extensive programming and events, including inviting guest speakers to campus, sponsoring and supporting theatre, art, music, and literary events, and creating the "Charged Up for Change! EXPO."

Roxie Veasey and Jill Johnson have been drawing and painting faculty at UAH since 2003. The quality, creativity and hard work of their students over the years inspired them to sponsor a modest award for an outstanding student painting or drawing.


Katie Baldwin, Associate Professor, UAH

Katie Baldwin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art, Art History & Design, where she teaches book arts and printmaking at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Baldwin co-founded the wood+paper+box collaborative with Mariko Jesse and Yoonmi Nam in 2013 and the Shift-lab collective with Denise Bookwalter, Sarah Bryant, Macy Chadwick and Tricia Treacy in 2013. She has traveled internationally as an artist in residence to Scotland, Iceland, Nicaragua, Poland, Cuba, Mexico and Japan. She was one of seven international artists selected in 2004 to learn traditional Japanese woodblock printing (mokuhanga) from master carvers and printers at the Nagasawa Residency on Awaji Island, Japan. She returned to Japan in 2017 and 2019 for the Mi-Lab Advanced and Upper Advanced Residency in Kawaguchi. Baldwin is currently a Fulbright Scholar, and is conducting her project Modified Landscape at the International Print Center in Taipei, Taiwan.

The UAH Student Advertising Federation (SAF) is UAH's design and advertising club. A member of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and the American Advertising Federation of North Alabama (AAFNA), SAF is a creative resource for students who want to explore advertising, learn more about design, and network with industry professionals. Art Club


UAH Student art club is one of the most dynamic clubs on campus. Open to all students interested in the arts, the club sponsors a variety of activities including figure drawing nights, professional practice workshops, exhibiting student work at local art festivals, peer critiques and more. The students also fund two prizes for the juried student exhibition. Each year they put on the annual Holiday Art Show and Sale, and Week of Welcome activities.
