At the B1 level, students are expected to demonstrate independent use of English across the four skills.
In listening, they should understand the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar topics such as work, school, leisure, and daily life. They can follow conversations if the speakers use slow and clear English and a straightforward structure.
In reading, they are able to understand texts that consist mainly of high-frequency everyday or job-related language. They can find specific information in letters, emails, short reports, or simple articles, and they can follow the main idea of texts that describe events, feelings, or wishes.
In speaking, B1 students can handle most situations likely to arise while traveling in an English-speaking area. They can connect phrases to describe experiences, dreams, and plans. They can express opinions and explain reasons briefly, even if they hesitate and need to search for words.
In writing, they can produce simple connected texts on topics of personal interest. They can write letters, messages, and short essays describing events, impressions, and experiences, using basic connectors such as “and,” “but,” and “because.”
