During our math class, students will participate in whole-group lessons, small group activities, independent work, and math games. We will follow the Ready Math program used throughout our district for lessons, individualized online instruction (iReady/My Path), fact practice (Fluency Flight), and for assessments.
Students will have opportunities to play lots of math games to practice important math skills, build fact fluency, develop collaboration skills, and have fun with their classmates and staff. We will also listen to read alouds and participate in math discussions, problem solving, and games related to the story.
During one part of their math class, students will work on their math menus and My Path lessons. Math menus include math skills and fact practice, problem solving, puzzlers, and games. Students may also participate in math intervention groups during this time.
Here are some of my favorite math games. Throughout the year, I will send home paper copies of math games, too. Please encourage your child to play these (and other) math games at home to practice basic facts.
Please let me know if your child needs a deck of cards or dice. Also, Woodbury Mountain Toys sells a variety of different types of dice, such as 10-sided dice that work well with these games.
