To get more feedback on our UI we conducted some initail user studies. We had approximately 12 participants who we invited to use the app. After they spent some time exploring the app, we gave them a simple questionaire to fill out. On this we asked the following questions:
After making some of the changes discussed earlier we decided to have one last round of user tests with our final working prototype. For this round of tests we had 10 participants some of whom had seen the version 1 prototype as well. After using the app for a bit we asked them to fill the same survey that we had created for the initial study.
Reported the app was easy to navigate!
"practical and simple to use."
"Well organized, pleasant to look at"
"very clean and simple"
"Smooth, Clean UI"
Felt they might possibly use the app in the future!
We were glad to see that the reviews were mostly positive and that the color scheme was more appreciated this around!
Most people felt that the app was truly needed on campus and liked that they could find all their health and food related information in one place.
Intrestingly, almost all of the "extra" features that people thought we should add were initially conceptualized in our balsamiq prototype or in the form prototype- including a record of what was eaten every day/week/month, a progress bar that showed the macros count for the day, filters for dietary restrictions and allergens and the ability to keep a food diary!
Additionally, we did have some foundation for all of these features in the backend. We just hadn't implemented them fully yet. This made us realise a fundamental flaw we had made ealier in the development of the app.
instead we did our first user study after we had already developed parts of the app.
Some ways in which we could improve our final survey to get more detailed feedback would have been to:
Nevertheless, we are grateful to have got this feedback and will try to incorportate it all in future iterations of the app! We believe that UR Eats has the potential to help students with their nutritional intake and budgetting. Despite missing some features, our app was well received by participants in the user studies and was able to fullfil the basic requirement of allowing them to tracktheir budget and macros and plan their meals better by having the menus and locations readily avaiable.
