The Plan
We wanted to develop an interview which we could take to VPG. We planned to ask their engineers about the current in-house tool they had for skin-tone analysis, discuss how we could improve upon it, and overall try to find pain points in their process that we could improve upon.
Reality
We ran into a few roadblocks during the process of our project, leaving us with not quite enough time to perform needfinding with VPG as planned. We still were able to conduct 2 interviews with VPG staff, and we conducted the rest of the interviews and user testing internally with our team acting as VPG engineers to in order to meet course deadlines.
VPG Interviews
We had two brief chats with VPG: one with Jean-Phillipe Couderc and one with Alex Page.
Interview with JP
The first was a proper interview. We spoke with JP and was able to get high-level information about the scope of the project, including what methods for skin-tone analysis they used in house and what they wanted us to improve upon.
Interview with Alex Page
We later had a brief chat with Mr. Page and determined some of the more technical details of their work as well as specific technical goals for our work.
Internal Interview
While our interviews with VPG helped define the direction of our back-end work for the project, we still needed to determine what a helpful front-end interface would look like for the project.
We conducted an internal interview with two of our teammates acting as VPG engineers. The goals for the interview were to understand the implementation details of the skin tone analysis models and figure out what our front-end interface should do and define it's features.
Through this interview, we were able to finalize our goal for the front-end interface to be clearly defining the paramaters and outputs of each of the three skin tone analysis models the team planned to build. The interface would be used to evaluate the accuracy of the models.
