Teaching Philosophy

"It is always my goal to ensure that my students learn to read critically. This means that they are able to explicate a text’s central thesis, research questions, and methods. They should come to be able to engage the text in a way that it can be applied to everyday life and social structures. This is central to my ethos as a performance pedagoge — the marriage of theory and praxis."

"I support my students' development of such skills through in class case study analysis, wherein we take up a real world instance of performance, and apply theories and concepts from our readings to the case studies in small groups, before coming back together as a class to compare our approaches."
