Haiwen Luan will be joining the MAE faculty at UC San Diego in Spring 2024.

Formerly he was a postdoctoral scholar at Northwestern University’s Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics, collaborating with Prof. John A. Rogers. He earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University in 2019 under the guidance of Prof. Yonggang Huang, receiving the Ted Belytschko Outstanding Research Award in the same year. Luan holds a master's degree in civil and environmental engineering, also from Northwestern University, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Tongji University, China. He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Science Advances, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Extreme Mechanics Letters, and the Journal of Applied Mechanics.
